Press Release:
DEMOLITION DERBY CHAMPIONSHIP
PARTNERS
WITH SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK
Groups Pledge to Demolish Hunger
NASHVILLE, TN –
August 20, 2010 – September is Hunger Action Month, and the DEMOLITION
DERBY LEAGUE (DDL) has teamed up with the Second Harvest Food Bank of
Middle Tennessee to DEMOLISH HUNGER!
The Food Bank relies on a network of growers, manufacturers,
wholesalers, grocery stores, and individuals to donate food that they
then distribute through more than 400 not-for-profit agencies in 46
counties in Middle Tennessee. At the 2010 TN Demolition Derby
Championship on September 11th at the TN State Fairgrounds,
the DDL will be collecting food items to help Second Harvest to
DEMOLISH HUNGER! The most needed items for their Emergency Food Boxes
are peanut butter, canned meat, canned fruit, rice, macaroni and
cheese and cereal. They cannot accept dented or expired cans, and
prefer not to receive alcohol mixers or glass containers.
"If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly event and a way to give
back to the community, why not come to the Demolition Derby
Championship and bring a donation to join the fight to DEMOLISH
HUNGER!" says Dudley Disastro, Commissioner of the DEMOLITION DERBY
LEAGUE.
The SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE was founded in 1978
by a group of citizens who were concerned about their hungry
neighbors. The Food Bank was designed to collect food that would
otherwise be wasted, inspect and sort that food, and distribute it to
not-for-profit agencies serving hungry people. Today, it relies on a
network of growers, manufacturers, wholesalers, grocery stores, and
individuals to donate food that is distributed to the community through
more than 400 not-for-profit agencies in 46 counties in Middle
Tennessee. Partners include food pantries, soup kitchens,
shelters, child care facilities, senior centers, group homes, and
youth enrichment programs. For more information on Second
Harvest, please visit
